FAQ

What is Pilates?
“The Pilates Method of Body Conditioning is, in many respects, very different from your typical gym workout.  The exercise program utilizes a system of over 500 exercises using specialized equipment created by Joseph Pilates. Pilates is based on six key principles consisting of centering, control, concentration, breath, flow, and precision.  The goal within each exercise is to achieve each of those principles. As the body gains strength through practice and repetition, you learn to focus mentally and execute moves no matter how difficult.”

Do I need to be thin to do Pilates?
No. At Pilates On The Edge West we will customize a safe and effective program for you.

Will Pilates help me lose weight?
Pilates will help you lengthen and strengthen every muscle in your body.  By doing so you will burn calories more efficiently.  Pilates combined with a healthy diet and cardio activity is a great healthy way to lose weight.  Pilates helps sculpt long, lean muscles and you will find that your clothes are looser even if the scale has not changed yet.

Can I do Pilates when I am pregnant?
Pilates is an excellent exercise method during a normal pregnancy.  Pilates can help your body deal with the physical changes you are experiencing and also help prepare you for labor and delivery. We will put together a program that addresses your individual needs.  We will not accept new clients while they are pregnant if they have never done Pilates before. If you have been doing Pilates prior to becoming pregnant, we will be happy to work with you.

What should I wear?
We recommend comfortable clothing that will move with your body.  Pilates is done either barefoot or with socks.

How do I get started?
